Units Overview

My personal opinion about some of the units in the game,
i wrote it for humans but its the same for orc units.

Unit index

Ground Units

The Footman
True, the most simple ground fighter, but most people stop build it once got knights. this is wrong! remember that footmans are less expensive then knights and you can use them well to protect your peasents. when you send them in group along with knights your opponent will be confused and waste his time trying to attack the knights first - trust me on this one :)

The Archer
Archers can be used to target dragons. 4 archers will wack a dragon with no problem. even so this is their main use, also send them with groups of fighters when you attack ground, since they have a very good damage once upgrded. they are also cheap to build. if left alone, the archer is very week in hand to hand combat.

The Balista
Longest range unit in the game, also one of the more deadly. extremly expensive, yet a must have to win. its main use is to take down enemy towers since it can outrange them. you should make 3-4 balistas and use them from within your city for protection. balista is a must on your ground attacks or you will waste your army on dealing with towers. the balista is defenseless from close range, therefor must never be left alone.

The Paladin
Your strongest ground fighter and an importand spell caster, the paladin is extremly important. you should keep some paladins in your town to heal armies and to explor the area with holy vision. the rest of the paladins will do the war! large group of paladins are proven success. attach several archers and maybe a balista and you got your ground assult team ready to go.

The Dwarves Demo. Squad
Usefull but cost alot. they can be used to bomb towers, buildings, or just units. when bombing buildings you need to remember that each demo squad do 400 damage so to take out a barracks you will need 2 demo squads, and 3 for a town hall. if the enemy plays the stupid "wall of towers" strategy - demo squads are your solution.

The Mage
Very Very expensive to learn all the spells, there for you reaserch the good ones first - go for blizzard and invisibility first, then slow, then the rest. your mage start with fireball, but it preety stinks, better save that mana. put mages behind towers and cast slow on attacking enemy troops. also slow dragons, a slow dragon is very pethetic, i think a single archer can take him out. take 2 mages, cast invisibility on each other then go and blizzard that spot where your opponent swarm his troops when he is preparing to attack your city. i cant count the games i won thanks to using my mages wisely.

Air Units

The Griphon Rider
Basically, this unit suck. it cost 2500 gold and gets killed way too fast. it attacks slow yet causing good damage to more than just one unit / building. if you are in the end of the game and got a lot of gold to spend, then go for griphons. otherwise, let your opponent waste his gold enjoy killing his riders with your archers and arrow towers. it will cost him way lot more then it will cost you.

The Fly Machine
No much to discuss, this is a must build. you explor the area with it and detect subs. if you play with fog-o-war (as you should for maximum fun) you will need 6-7 of this unit to pre-know your enemy moves.

Water Units

The Destroyer
This ship is very usefull also after you can build battleships for a very simple reason - it can target air. 3-4 of these to protect your oil factories from dragons, the rest to patrol and scare away dragons from attacking your battleships. having more then 10 of those is pointless, since they are no match for battleships in combat.

The Battleship
Strongest sea fighter, the battleship is heavily armored and inflict great damage on its targets. beside using it as your sea warrior, you should target with it enemy towers and buildings close to the shore, but watch out from balistas! dont send battleships alone... to expensive to loose : always send 1-2 destroyers to protect from air and flyer to detect subs. make sure you have 1 battleship more then your enemy, that will drawn the final battle.

The Submarine
Ok... unless your opponent is a newbie, this is a waste of time. its expensive and week, if your opponent has a fly machine you will be detected in no time and 1 single shot from a battle ship will send your gold and oil to the dump. i seldom use it to attack oil factories in the sea... agine, better to put that gold into another battleship.
